Making Friends With Uncertainty

No matter how much planning we do or how much control we think we have over our lives, life will always be filled with uncertainty.  Rather than fearing uncertainty, make friends with it.
Yes, there will be setbacks and frustrating disappointments, but these are nothing to fear, nor should they stop you from embracing and living life.  How you perceive and handle "setbacks" determines how things will turn out.
Accepting uncertainty as a part of life means trusting that your life fits into a much larger plan. This is not always easy because the ego would have you believe that you are unsafe.  So, we hold on while fear holds us hostage.
When we trust that our life fits a larger plan, we come to know that everything we experience is meant to fit into our evolution. It is for our learning and for our inner growth. The more we connect with our true self, the more we will find that setbacks, disappointments, and failures fall into one of these categories:
  • They are temporary, and they will somehow work themselves out with minimal effort. When we adopt the attitude that all things work out for the highest good, we can trust that something good will come out of it in the end.
  • They point you in a new direction, asking you to re-examine what you are doing.  If our current direction is not serving our best interest, or if we no longer feel in alignment with it, then it is time to re-inventory our lives, and make the necessary changes.
  • They uncover hidden negative emotions and beliefs that we need to resolve.  We don't always realize what's holding us back until something cracks us open.
  • They are paving the way for new opportunities that are getting ready to present themselves to us. Unseen forces are continually working in our favor, even if we don't see them.
If you still can not understand how setbacks fit into a larger plan for you, let not your heart be troubled.  Have patience, return to your center, and accept for the moment that life has uncertainties that can not be explained.  In time, an explanation may present itself, especially when you are in a state of readiness (without fear) to receive it.
There is a higher plan that is always guiding you forward even though there are bumps along the way.

Is Your Body Your Friend?

Our biggest ally and supporter in life is our body.  It is the physical platform by which we accomplish things in life. When we align it with the present moment, and with our goals, values, and love, we create a solid foundation for success.
Sadly, our concept of something or someone being beautiful is grounded in a belief system that promotes judgment and duality. We let the external standards of youthful beauty and attractiveness define us as we buy into the false images the media and society tell us is the ideal body.  In this case, beauty depends on something being identified as ugly.
Our body is a living, intelligent, dynamic creation.  It supports our well-being when we make choices that honor it, not debase it.  It is our friend, willing and able to do what we ask of it. Why would we treat it as anything less?
Celebrate that you have this trusted friend with you at all times. Our body does not lie.
Consider the following quotes:
Here in this body are the sacred rivers: here are the sun and moon as well as all the pilgrimage places...I have not encountered another temple as blissful as my own body.  Saraha
Our body is precious.  It is our vehicle for awakening.  Treat it with care.  Buddha
There is deep wisdom within our very flesh, if we can only come to our senses and feel it.  Elizabeth A. Behnke
The body is a multilingual being.  It speaks through its color and its temperature, the flush of recognition, the glow of love, the ash of pain, the heat of arousal, the coldness of nonconviction. . . . It speaks through the leaping of the heart, the falling of the spirits, the pit at the center, and rising hope.  Clarissa Pinkola Est├ęs
It is amazing how many hints and guides and intuitions for living come to the sensitive person who has ears to hear what his body is saying.  Rollo May
The body always leads us home . . . if we can simply learn to trust sensation and stay with it long enough for it to reveal appropriate action, movement, insight, or feeling.  Pat Ogden
For every thought supported by feeling, there is a muscle change.  Primary muscle patterns being the biological heritage of man, man's whole body records his emotional thinking.  Mabel Ellsworth Todd
Your emotions are your inner guidance system.  They alone will let you know whether you are living in an environment of biochemical health or in an environment of biochemical distress.  Understanding how your thoughts and your emotions affect every single hormone and cell in your body, and knowing how to change them in a way that is health-enhancing, gives you access to the most powerful and empowering health-creating secret on earth.  Christiane Northrup
Being in touch with our bodies, or more accurately, being our bodies, is how we know what is true.  Harriet Goldhor Lerner
To connect with our bodies is to learn to trust ourselves, and from that comes power.  Mirka Knaster

Shift I Am Not To I Am

The I am not or the I can't mentality is not uncommon.  Throughout life we've been through a conditioning process that's created this sort of mind-set.  You didn't win that contest, and you think I am not talented. You were criticized, and you think I am not good enough.  You failed a test, and you think I am not smart.  You are faced with a challenge, and you think I can't do this.
Each time you think I am not this or I can't do that, you block the inherent creative force you were born to use.
Overcoming this mentality requires reconstructing your I Am statements.  The words I am are much more than a pronoun married to a state-of-being verb.  They define who we are and what we are capable of, and they are holy expressions for the name of God (remember when God spoke to Moses, announcing his name as I am that I am?).  I am is the highest aspect of yourself; it is your Divine Self.  Take care which descriptors you use after I am, or you will negate your Divine nature.
When it comes to reconstructing your I am statements, it's important to practice using words to define yourself only in ways that are compatible with your highest self, and then the unseen forces of the universe will conspire to supply you with the happiness, love, and success you've imagined.  Begin to focus your attention on the words that follow the sacred I am.  This is key to releasing the creative force within.
If you've been saying I am incapable, stop! This is self-sabotaging. You ARE capable. Shift to I am capable.  If you've been thinking I am not lucky in love, shift to I am love. Reword your inner world for this is a beginning step to accessing the assistance of your higher self.  You want what follows I am to be congruent with your higher self; this alignment will synchronistically invite the guidance you need.
Overcoming the I am not mentality begins with trusting your inner world of spirit, where there are no boundaries and where all things are possible.
Try it for yourself.  Think of some things that you would like to define your life. Then shift from I am not or I am hoping to to a strong, heart-felt I AM, and let me know what happens.

"Imagineering" Your Life

Walt Disney used the term "imagineering" when it came to creating his world-known theme parks. It's a belief that permeates everything that his company does. These imagineers are the creative force behind the fairy tale castles, the thrilling amusement rides, and the spectacular fireworks displays.

To be an imagineer, one must use his or her imagination to engineer life experiences that reveal and release the higher/authentic self.

It's about making magic by pushing the boundaries of creativity, innovation, and possibility to create the life we want.

The greatest gift we were ever given was the gift of imagination. Within that magical realm is the capacity to manifest our dreams. The poet William Blake writes, "What is now proved was once only imagin'd." This is the basis for imagineering. This is the secret to living a life of creative manifestation. As Blake's nugget of wisdom sinks into your consciousness, your imagination will begin to take over.

One look around will show you that everything you experience with your senses was once in someone's imagination. In order for things to exist, or to be proved, as Blake says, they must first be placed firmly into your imagination. Without imagination, creativity stops. Spiritual leaders have known this through the centuries. And today, the world of quantum physics confirms that the universe is made of formless energy, and that particles (matter, things) do not originate from other particles; they spring from something invisible, something akin to our imagination. It transcends the boundaries of our senses, and it can't be proven mathematically or verified scientifically. Yet it exists. We know we have an imagination.

All we have to do is to take charge of it.

If we are to advance confidently in the direction of our dreams, as Henry David Thoreau instructs, we must understand that using our imagination involves more intensity than just imagining the occasional wishful thought. This involves unlearning some of the ways we have squandered or misused the capacity that our imagination has to advance us in the direction of our dreams. We've used it to develop mental habits that hold us back.

We can change those habits by developing a new mindset. We do this by remembering that our imagination is ours and ours alone to use in any way that we choose. No one else is responsible for our imagination, and anything we place in it and hold there ultimately becomes our reality.

The imagineer does not misuse his or her imagination. Instead, the imagineer stresses what s/he wants, not what s/he doesn't want. The imagineer never imagines what it is that s/he doesn't wish to have as his or her reality. Energy flows where attention goes.

The imagineer does not allow the imagination to be contaminated by ideas about how life used to be. S/He uses positive "I am" statements instead of "I am not" statements. The imagineer has developed a healthy self-concept. S/He has replaced old ideas of I can't help it, It's my nature, I've always been that way with I am capable, I am strong, I am healthy, I am happy. Imagineers completely heed St. Germain's words, "I AM the Conquering Presence! I command this I AM Presence to govern perfectly my mind, home, affairs and world." The words "I AM" are our sacred identification as our Higher Self, and the imagineer knows this.

The imagineer doesn't allow the current conditions of life to restrict the imagination. The imagineer knows the imagination is unlimited and does not opt for an ordinary level of living. The imagineer is a bold thinker, changing such thoughts as I will one day be in a better place to In my mind I am where I intend to be. S/He invites and trusts the mysterious unseen world of Spirit to guide him or her by creating an atmosphere of allowing it in without pushing it.

The imagineer is adamant about the imagination being a private sacred inner space. S/He speaks to it with reverence and stays in a constant state of gratitude.

With imagineering, there are no limits. Are you brave enough to give it a try?

Are You Taking Responsibility?

success poster

Responsibility. It's a word that many people throw around loosely, yet don't want to claim for themselves. And then they wonder why things aren't working out in their lives.

Success in life, especially achieving those things that are most important, depends on you, and you alone.

When we take full responsibility for our lives, suddenly things seem to fall into place. Notice I said "full." Not half. Full.

This doesn't mean doing things half-assed. It means getting off your duff and doing something about something, not sitting idly back wishing for things to fall into your lap. It means being proactive.

Nothing gets done until you take action. The house isn't going to clean itself (unless you have a maid, but even then you have to get off your butt to hire one). The bills aren't going to pay themselves. Those extra 15 pounds you put on over the winter aren't going to melt off of you any time soon. Something has to be done, and only you can do something about it.

We have been blessed with the ability to choose how we respond to events that occur in life.

The question is, how are YOU responding to the events in your life???

Events in and of themselves have no meaning, until we apply meaning to them; that is, until we respond in a way that gives meaning to them.

Those of the victim mindset will react, complain, cry, wail and dramatize the event out of proportion, making others feel sorry for them.

Those of the creator mindset will take proactive measures and turn the event around to their advantage. They will learn from it, grow from it, and even offer gratitude for it.

Want to lose that extra weight? Take responsibility.

Want to pay down your debts? Take responsibility.

Want to find that dream job? Take responsibility.

When you take full responsibility, you will create better outcomes by consciously choosing your responses to the things that happen in your life.

Take responsibility. Today.

The One Thing That Can Change Your Life

Changing our lives begins with changing our thinking.

If you could change one thing in your life, right now, what would you change?

Changing your thinking about that one thing begins the process of allowing things to fall into line so that real change occurs.

Just stating, "I'm going to change this. Now!" with a willingness and determination to change will shift the brain into a solution, or creative, mode.

Maybe you're feeling that life is dull. What can you do to change your thinking on this?

Make a list of all the things that you think are making your life dull.

How many complaints (yes, complaints) do you have? Each time you repeat (think or say) these complaints, a feedback loop is set in motion. The more you tell yourself that life is dull, the more dull it gets. These complaints are limitations that keep you from changing because you keep reinforcing them in your mind.

Now ask, "What can I do to make my life more exciting?" Take a few moments to center yourself, and in a calm frame of mind, create your list. Don't let old conditioning distract you. If negative thoughts crop up, breathe through them, let them go, and focus on the question again.

This exercise allows you to "re-wire" your brain so you can create solutions rather than problems. As solutions surface, you will begin to feel energized, the very opposite of dull. The more energized you feel, the more energy you will create. You will find yourself wanting to take the necessary steps toward real change, and as you do, more opportunities will present themselves to keep you moving forward.

And that's the key. Create solutions that are complete opposites of the conditioning that keeps you stuck in a negative situation.

You will be astonished at the transformation that will take place just by altering your thoughts.

The Universe Does Not Judge

universe - thought bubble
The power of the Universe is at our disposal at any given moment.

Actually, we use it all the time whether we realize it or not. It's how we create our experiences, good, bad, and ugly.

It does not judge or differentiate between good or bad, or right or wrong. It delivers based on our belief system, emotion, and readiness.

It reflects our desires. When we believe and feel that we are ready for that which we desire, the Universe rearranges itself and begins the manifestation process. However, when we ask for something, and we feel/believe we are not ready for it, the Universe will perceive us as is -- as someone who wants something but isn't ready, and there we will remain in our self-created struggle.

Whenever we invalidate or deny something, we empower it in our mind. The more we think about what we don't want, the more power we give it to manifest in our lives.

Instead, we must think about what we do want. And we must be very specific in our requests. The Universe likes details, and the more details we give, the better, or it will grant things that do not completely fulfill our expectations.

Take no thought as to how things will occur. We need not worry about the basic mechanism involved. Trust the Universe to rearrange energy patterns behind the scenes to manifest our desires. When we have a specific desire backed by a strong and clear emotion, we have already begun the process of manifestation.

Things will remain the same until we are able to change our thought process, our belief system, and our thought habits.

No matter what we think, the Universe will always provide, according to our dominant thoughts and beliefs. It pays to know what yours are.

Thoughts: Friends or Foes?

choose thoughts wisely
Our thoughts are our constant companions.

They can be our best friends, or our worst enemies.

They can serve our best interests, or sabotage them.

With every thought that we think (choose), the Universe goes into action by simply rearranging itself to accommodate our beliefs. It works on our behalf based on what we choose to think and believe. As energy patterns are rearranged, that which we think about most often (whether in a positive light or negative one) begins the manifestation process.

If you continually focus your thoughts on that which you don't want, those things will surely find their way into your life. Focusing your thoughts on your most positive possibilities enables you to take the steps to make those possibilities real. When you think positive thoughts, you'll be guided to take positive actions. When you take positive actions, you get valuable results.

Your thoughts determine and direct the actions that you take. Choose them as wisely as you would choose your friends.
